Fire Services

The Fire Services Unit within the Provincial Disaster Management Centre (PDMC) is primarily responsible for the coordination and support of fire services across municipalities. This role ensures that fire services are adequately equipped, trained, and prepared to respond effectively to emergencies, including fire incidents and other disasters.

The unit's key functions typically include:

  1. Facilitating Communication: Ensuring seamless communication between municipal fire services and provincial authorities.
  2. Resource Allocation: Supporting municipalities with essential equipment, personnel, and technical expertise when local resources are insufficient.
  3. Training and Capacity Building: Organizing training programs and workshops to enhance the skills and knowledge of firefighters and related personnel.
  4. Policy and Standards Implementation: Ensuring adherence to national and provincial fire safety regulations and standards.
  5. Disaster Response Coordination: Playing a central role in coordinating large-scale fire responses and multi-agency disaster interventions.
  6. Planning and Risk Reduction: Assisting municipalities in fire risk assessments, mitigation strategies, and contingency planning.
